WRC 2023 Agenda Item Details
Agenda Item: | Agenda Item 1.3 |
Resolution(s): | Resolution 246 (COM6/3) (WRC-19) |
Description of work: | This agenda item considers possible primary allocation in Region 1 to the mobile service (except aeronautical) in the band 3 600 - 3 800 MHz. The ITU-R is invited to study sharing and compatibility studies (including with services in adjacent bands where appropriate) in order to protect services with an existing primary allocation |
Comments: | In some countries in Region 1, the 3 600 - 3 800 MHz band has already been identified for use by mobile services. For example in the UK, Ofcom is preparing to auction this band for new wireless technologies including 5G. Note that C band continues to be an important band for satellite ES, in particular above 3.8 GHz, and applications such as news gathering relies on access to this band. As recognised by the Resolution, for African countries, especially in tropical areas, operation of FSS is more reliable in this band than at higher frequencies where links can suffer from significant rain attenuation resulting in lower availability |

How Visualyse products can help: | Visualyse Professional can model sharing between IMT services and other services such as satellite ES and the fixed service. This analysis can be static, area, dynamic or Monte Carlo including adjacent band studies. A range of propagation models could be used including P.452, P.1546, P.1812, P.2001 or generic dual or triple slope including Hata / COST 231. This analysis can be generic or include the use of terrain data. Visualyse Professional can also model the beam-forming antenna gain pattern in Recommendation ITU-R M.2101. |
How Transfinite consultants can help: | We can undertake studies including analysis of sharing between the services covered by this agenda item, and identify suitable system characteristics and sharing criteria, and provide contributions and representation at ITU-R Working Parties. Using our in house Visualyse Professional we can quickly model a very wide range of systems, services and scenarios. We have undertaken studies of C-band sharing between IMT and other services including satellite and fixed links for a range of clients including Ofcom and the GSMA. |
